On my recent trip to San Diego, I got up close and personal with a sea lion.
Let me be clear, I did not approach these amazing animals. They approached me! Pumpkin showed me an area where I could watch the amazing creatures from a distance and not be disturbed. I am easily amused and amazed. As I'm watching below, I can see them swimming their tails off. The inner child in me thought it would be fun to wave "hi" at them, in which I did.
Shortly after saying our hellos, one decide to jump out of the water, hopped a couple of rocks, and plant their rubber butt next to me! OMIGOSHHH!! Is this really happening?! Of course, I kept my distance. Took this perfect opportunity to take a few photos. Shortly after the upward dog photo we took, a second sea lion came up as well!!
And yes. I was scared. Gerald (Yes. I named the second sea lion Gerald) kept barking at me. Apparently, they're very territorial. I mean, I liked where I was. It was my rock and I saw it first! But seriously, if they start barking at you, slowly move away from them, cuz God knows, maybe they would bite.
This was such a cool experience. Gotta come back here again soon.
